youth krav maga
The Krav Maga Association youth self-defense program is a fun and engaging alternative to traditional martial arts self-defense classes for kids. Instead of focusing on only learning forms, Krav Maga offers techniques that kids can use in real-world situations at school, the playground, and most importantly, throughout their lives. Self-defense has a long lasting purpose and the techniques they learn will be tremendously useful.
Our main focus is confidence, physical fitness, and self-defense. Each one of these needs the other two in order to function as a full unit, much like the human body. Keep that in mind as your child trains with us at PDT.
As a kid growing up, I didn't understand what believing in yourself translated to. I heard it, but I didn't know how to apply it. I fell to peer pressure because I lacked this one factor. I didn't believe in or understand my strength. Confidence is a learned trait and applicable skill. Once I became aware of what it really meant to have confidence, everything changed. My habits, my friends, where and with who I spent my time. In the Krav Maga youth self-defense program, students are challenged in ways that build their confidence and then taught how to use it.
Fostering mental toughness is one of our primary missions; a strong mind is aware and confident. The physical training is the secondary component to self-defense; the student must also believe they are capable of accomplishing it.
We don't endorse victimization that is prevalent in society; we teach all ages to stand up for themselves or for someone else. Our students are taught to use their words before their Krav Maga skills. Though words only go so far, and words don't stop a physical assault.
Your child will get plenty of purposeful exercise. A strong mind needs a strong body as well. Our classes have a balance of strength training and cardio conditioning, explosive movements, basic calisthenics, and stretching which create a dynamic physical learning environment. Kids must be challenged physically and mentally for adequate development, so changing things up makes it engaging!
Krav Maga is a skill learned and adapted quickly. Students that come to understand it know that they use their words first to diffuse a situation. If all options are exhausted then it is time to defend yourself. Self-defense is a two-part system; proper technique and the self-confidence that they can apply the technique.
When dealing with bullies or a real life attacker.
Every child has a right to defend themselves and no one should have to feel victimized. Bullying has such a negative psychological and sociological impact that victims are often at a much higher risk of feeling isolated and having thoughts of attempting suicide or lashing out with unnecessary violence. Krav Maga gives kids who are struggling with bullying an outlet to realize their purposes and the skill to fight back.
I’ve often been asked the question, “won’t teaching kids how to defend themselves increase violence?”
Teaching a child they don’t have to be the victim and that they have a choice is empowering. Simply put, no. This is because this is not a fight club, this is learning how to defend oneself against an attacker.
